He was predeceased by: his parents, Carlton L. Mitchell and Gloria Mitchell (Phelps); and his brothers, James Mitchell and Carlton Mitchell Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Sonya Mitchell (Gifford); his son Jarod Mitchell; his daughter-in-law Rebecca Mitchell of Brewer; his son Justin Mitchell; his daughter-in-law Haley Mitchell of Fern Park, FL; his daughter Courtney Read; his son-in-law Kenneth Read of Milbridge; his grandchildren, Aiden Mitchell of Trenton, Connor, Amelia, Sophia, Sienna, Carson and Mackenzie; his brother Lawrence Mitchell of Trenton; and his siblings-in-law, Rebecca Mitchell of Lamoine and Carroll Gifford (Jody Gifford) of Union.

“I had the privilege of working repeatedly with Ken throughout his career, as law enforcement, and social work met. He was outstanding. There was one instance, in particular, where he was very instrumental in helping a very frightened woman leave her abusive husband. I listened to him take all the time she needed in allaying her concerns, and validating her feelings of fear. She did indeed leave, and to this day, credits him, with enabling she and her children to have serene lives.”
