He was predeceased by: his parents, Delhi Johnson Smith and Clara Ella Smith (Skillings); his brothers, John and Roland; his brother-in-law Bucky Arris; and his nephews, Greg Smith and Lee Arris.
He is survived by: his wife Catherine Smith (Osbon); his sister Elizabeth Arris of Freeport; his children, Janie (Arlene Morse), Jeannie (Peter Madore), Richard Smith Jr. (Jennifer Atwood), Julie (Michael Maloy) and Scott Smith; his stepson Shawn (Donna Osbon); and his grandchildren, Joshua, Zachary Lachance, Lindsey Labbe, Katlyn Trottier, Jenna King, Anna Green, Clint Maloy, Maggie Trottier, Callum Maloy, Gabrielle Smith, Jack Smith and Kristin Osbon.
