He was predeceased by: his parents, James Thomas Gavin, Sr. and Agnes E. Gavin (Moran); and his siblings, Thomas F. Gavin, Catherine Gavin Pyne, J. T. Gavin Jr. and Frank J. Gavin (Mary L. Colgan).
He is survived by: his wife Valerie Gavin; his children, Maryellen Didden, William Gavin Jr., Irene Biggs and Robert J. Gavin; his stepchildren, Kristina Grove and Scott Gunther; and his brother John R. Gavin. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
