He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Alton Nusbaum Bankert and Pinkie E. Moore Bankert; his wife Dolores M. Bixler Bankert; his grandparents, George and Myrle Bankert; his grandsons, Tommy and Billy Szeliga; his sister Barbara Mills; his siblings-in-law, Janet and Marvin Hollinger; his brother Alton N. Bankert, Jr.; his sister-in-law Carol Bixler Head; his nephew Craig Hollinger; and his brother-in-law Russell K. Mills, Jr.. He was also cherished by great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
