He was predeceased by: his parents, Dorothy May and Albert William Whalen; his brother Robert Whalen; his son-in-law Jeffery McCurry; and his granddaughter Brianna.
He is survived by: his wife Doris Hester; his daughters, Patricia McCurry and Cynthia Van Ells (Michael) of Charlottesville, VA.; and his grandchildren, Kimberly, Michael, Leslie and Shannon. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren.
