He was predeceased by: his parents, Lyle Ellis and Ruth Kathleen Mathews (Frye); his son Lyle Walton Mathews, Jr.; and his brother Ronald Carl Mathews. He is survived by: his wife Mary Lee Mathews (Reynolds); his son Bart Mathews (Kathryn); his sister Louise Henry (David) of Baltimore; his grandchildren, Kristina Harvey (Craig) of Littlestown, PA, Mitchell Mathews (Emily) of Hampstead and Mary Rebecca "Becca" Mathews of Colorado; his great grandchildren, Dale and Dace Harvey of Littlestown, PA; his sister-in-law Linda Mathews (Chalk); and his nieces and nephews, Julie Strickland, Tony Bibb, Ronald Mathews, Michael Mathews and Augusta Mathews.
