She was predeceased by: her mother Elena Sarmiento; and her parents-in-law, Richard and Helen Degenhard. She is survived by: her father Sam Sarmiento; her husband Robert Degenhard; her sibling La Sarmiento (Wendy Taylor); her siblings-in-law, Mary Beth Brandenburg (Jeff), Joe Degenhard (Leigh) and Will Degenhard (Annie); and her nieces and nephews, Grace, Maeve, Tess, Cecilia, Owen, Quinn, Simeon and Henry.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations offered in memory of Nini can be made to the University of Maryland School of Medicine in honor of her tenacious and compassionate oncologist, Dr. Dana Roque.
