She was predeceased by: her siblings, Doris Threatt, Raymond Coates, Phyllis Reams, Kenneth Coates, Leonard Coates, Katherine Hollingsworth, Charles Coates, Ida Coates Key and Lucille Key; and her close friends, William Dixon, Betty Thomas and Lucille Black.
She is survived by: her children, Herbert L. Brooks Jr. (Lisa) of Owings Mills, MD, Tisha Brooks Hebron (William Jr.) of New Windsor, MD and Joseph Brooks (Kenyatta) of Taneytown, MD; her stepdaughter Anita Lewis (John) of Union Bridge, MD; her grandchildren, Miranda of Joseph, II, Jordan, Drake, Ava and Sarah; her former husband Herbert L. Brooks Sr.; her sister-in-law Carolyn Coates; and her friends, Arlene Clark, Judy Hill, Dorothy Brown (Muddy), Theresa Hebron, Joyce Jackson and Ebony Cameron. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews.
