She was predeceased by: her parents, Sylvia L. Shears and Alvin Hurley; her mother-in-law Gennive Coates; her daughter Geneva Coates; her siblings, Anthony Ray and Sylvia Shears (Fat); and her cousin Debra Eaton.
She is survived by: her sons, Joseph R. Coates III and Karel Coates; her granddaughters, Jaunisia Coates and Nya Coates; her great grandchild Kross Coates; her aunt Carlene Eaton; her uncle Robert Bowie; and her siblings, Randolph Hurley (Randy), James Shears Jr., Saunders Freeland, Cindy Shears (Molly) and Beverly Shears (Bell). She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, friends and neighbors.
In her journey Cynthia battled with mental health and Parkinson's disease, but not alone.
