He was predeceased by: his mother Elizabeth Townsend; his wife Sue E. Townsend; his father Edward Townsend, Sr.; and his siblings, Charles Townsend and Cora E Everett.
He is survived by: his children, Michael Townsend, Jr. (Cheryl) and Christine Nichols; his siblings, Edward Townsend (Phyllis), John Townsend (Tammy), Sally Couch (Wade) and Sylvia Wooten (Jack); his grandchildren, Kayla Francis (Gabe), Jazmine Sample, MacKenzie Townsend, Alana Sample and Alayla Sample; and his great grandchildren, Gabriel Francis, Jr. and Kolten Francis.
