He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd Denton Hays and Cora M. Hays (Lewis); his former wife Janet L. Hays (Bowman); and his siblings, Ruth Spitzer, Lauren Hays, Harold Hays, Bill Hays and Lee Hays.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley E. Hays; his children, Suzanne Strayer (Ron) of Fairfield, PA and Donald E. Hays, Jr. (Sandra); and his grandchildren, Stacie Walck, Stephanie Steele, Jami Vaughan and Kendra McElroy. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and one nephew.
