He is survived by: his wife Cecile Phillip; his children, Odessa Phillip, Tamieka Thomasson and Ernest Skinner, Jr.; his grandchildren, Aidyn and Maddyson Thomasson; his siblings, Sherma Edwards, Ingrid Goodridge, Ian Phillip and Marilyn Phillip; and his cousins, David and Pamela. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In 2000, Learie was diagnosed with Early Onset Parkinson's Disease.
