He is survived by: his wife Mavin "Abbott" Gossard of Virginia; his children, Melva Rice (Danny) of Sharpsburg, MD, Melvin L. Gossard, Jr. (Teresa) of Shepherdstown, WV and Marion Gossard (Melissa Allen) of Falling Waters, WV; his brothers, Ralph Gossard, Sr. (Linda) of Hagerstown, MD and Clarence Gossard of Sharpsburg, MD; his grandchildren, Melvin, Meghan, Christopher, Sean, Ronnie, Taylor, William and Briar; and his stepgrandson Jon. He is also survived by 3 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
