He is survived by: his siblings, Brendan Garvey and Suzanne Buckmann; his children, Matthew (Emily Severance), Maura Kohlhafer (Donald), Peter Garvey (Laurie), Elizabeth Garvey and Stephen Garvey (Gina); and his grandchildren, Emilia Packard (Errol), Michael Garvey (Jessica), Tess Garvey (Mohammad), Allison Garvey (Zach), Madeleine Garvey (Joe), Christopher Kohlhafer (Katie), Elizabeth Doody (Bill), Margaret Wilkinson (Aaron), Amanda Gribbin (Bobby), Joshua Garvey, Kathryn Garvey, Brando Quagliano and Cesare Quagliano. He is also survived by sixteen great-grandchildren.
In 1985, he received the William M. Kennedy award from the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers for his contributions to the ship repair and shipbuilding industry.
