He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Young and Bessie Young Ayres (Taylor); and his brothers, Ronald Wayne Young of Herman Wilson, Ayers (Sylvia) and Bobby Ayres.
He is survived by: his wife Frances Kathryn Young (Shrieves); his children, Rebecca Lynn Ward (James), Sandra Kay O'Bryant and William Samuel Young, Jr. (Judy); his grandchildren, Jocelyn Tremper (Michael), Corey Bivens (Jason), Brandi Kitchel (Robyn), Mandi Blasing, David O'Bryant (Shala) and Lisa; his great grandchildren, Joshua, Eli, Carson Tremper, Ella Pruitt, Liam Bivens, Jason Bivens, Jr., Emma Kitchel, Molly, Shardenay Simmons, Jacob, Aiden Harris, Colt Taylor, Ashley Jenkins (Demitrius Pouncey), Zachary, Melissa Azenadago (Ralph) and Michelle; and his great great grandchildren, Elijah, Novalynn Pouncey, Maizie and Kayden.
