She was predeceased by: her parent Norman Gates, Sr.; and her siblings, Lillian Gates Elsey, James A. Gates and Norman Gates, Jr.. She is survived by: her parent Katie Jones Gates; her husband Johnny Chester; her niece Brenda Price (LaVaughn); her nephews, Richard Gates (Tracy) and Michael "Frankie" Wallace (Candace); her sister-in-law Regina Gates; and her goddaughter Gloria Creese Ash.
