He is survived by: his wife Kathleen M. Schafer; his children, Gary L. Schafer, John C. Schafer (Kathryn), Robert A. Schafer and Shanon Schafer; and his sister Margaret Helfrich. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
