He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse O'Day Hughes, Sr. and Henrietta Louise Polk-Hughes; his siblings, Iris Jackson, Delores Glover and Henry Polk; his granddaughter Menick Johnson-Holland; and his wife Hazel Croswell.
He is survived by: his former wife Yvonne Handy; his daughters, Machelle Watson (Jesse) of Fruitland, Maryland, Daphne Griffin (Leonard) of Salisbury, Maryland, Dr. Jessilene Purnell-Corbett (David Corbett) of Magnolia, Delaware and Maria Price (Dion) of Fort Washington, Maryland.; and his grandchildren, Steven, Candace, Christopher, Douglas, Xavier, Cameron and Jaden. He is also survived by 30 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 20th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Bennie Smith Life Celebration Center (901 W Isabella St, Salisbury, MD 21801). A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 20th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association.
