He was predeceased by: his parents, James W. Purnell, Sr. and Flora Heard Purnell; and his nephew Levin Alexander Purnell. He is survived by: his wife Yolanda R. Purnell; his sister Katrina Purnell; his siblings-in-law, Gregory Jackson and Mercedes C. Dennis (Stanford); his nephew Christopher J. Purnell; his niece Pamela Sims; his great-nephews, Joshua Purnell, Marcus Purnell, Desmond Nelson and Demetrius Nelson; his great-niece Chandrea F. Purnell; his godchildren, Delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes, Danielle Stewart-Jones, Ashley Orr, Eric Dennis and Erica Dennis; and his brother Rev. Richard Morris (Sherleena). He is also survived by several cousins, other relatives, in-laws, church family, and friends.
