Ethel Berry Obituary

Ethel Barnes Berry, 97, of Salisbury, died Monday, June 6, 2011 at Salisbury Center Genesis Elder Care. Mrs. Berry was born June 22, 1913 in Sykesville, MD, to the late Joshua and Rachel Leight Barnes. Her memberships include: Asbury United Methodist Church, Eastern Star (where she was a past Worthy Matron), Wicomico Women's Club (where she wrote the and was editor for the monthly newsletter), American Association of University Women, member and docent of the Ward Museum, United Methodist Women (Past President for two terms), Retired Teachers of Wicomico County, and AARP.

She worked for a total of 24 years in Wicomico County Public School systerm with the former Wicomico Senior High School, Prince Street Elementary School and Mardela High School. She is survived by her sons: Dr. Charles "Chuck" Richard Berry, Jr. and his wife, Mary Lou "Shugars" Berry of Brookings, SD, John "Bunk" Stewart Berry and his wife, Marian "Risley" Berry of Richlands, VA, Franklin "Frank" Barnes Berry and his wife Susan Veise-Berry of Ellicott City, MD and Thomas "Tom" Neeld Berry and his wife, Elizabeth "Jacobs" Berry of Westminster, MD; her sister, Elizabeth Henderson of Sykesville, MD; 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren with one expected in September; companions and caregivers, Cindy Boyd, Carol Jackson and Cindy; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 69 years, Charles Richard Berry, Sr. who died November 16, 2010. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 13, 2011 at 2 pm. Visitation will be Sunday, June 12, 2011 from 6 to 8 pm at Holloway Funeral Home and one hour prior in the service in the Mackey Room at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1401 Camden Ave, Salisbury, MD.

Entombment will be in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore – Charles Berry Memorial Fund, 1324 Belmont Avenue, Suite 401, Salisbury, MD 21804.
