He was predeceased by: his parents, Douglas Maddox and Virginia Mae James-Hitch; his grandparents, Leonard James, Sr. and Addie; his aunts and uncles, Oretta, Mary, Hazel, Elwood, Harlan, Samuel, Sr. and Leonard, Jr.; his brother Howard James; and his stepbrother Roland Jones.
He is survived by: his sister Joni Kindell; his stepsister Barbara Miles (Oscar); his cousins, Mary Davis, Ida Bunch, Joann Doane, Tonya Doane, Samuel James, Jr. (Donna), Samuel Caleb and James III; his close friend Robert Jackson; and his friends, Phyllis Brookins, Robert Hawkins, Joe Sutton, Oleana Smith and Lola Mills.
He was well-respected as a teacher and was recognized for his many contributions to the students' lives he influenced during his thirty-year tenure and throughout his career in Prince George's County School District.
