It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Joseph Matthew Markauskas of Saint Leonard, Maryland, born in Danville, Illinois, who passed away on May 8, 2023, at the age of 90, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Markauskas and Agatha Markauskas (Unekis); his wife Betty Markauskas; his daughter Karen Wessels; and his grandson Jonathan Wessels.
He is survived by: his daughters, Susan Scarlett (Brian) of Bowie, MD and Christina Halt (Scott) of Saint Leonard, MD; his son-in-law David Wessels of Port Republic, MD; and his grandchildren, Jena Fisher, Denny Scarlett, Matthew Fisher (Jennifer), Joseph Wessels, Joshua Wessels, Kyle Scarlett, Alex Halt (Harleigh), Noah Halt and Hannah Wessels. He is also survived by ten loving great-grandchildren.
The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to So Others Might Eat (SOME) (https://some.org) and/or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in Joe's honor.
