It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Kirby Smootz of Riverdale, Maryland, who passed away on July 27, 2021, at the age of 98, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his wife Thelma Irene Smootz; his parents, Charles Gideon Smootz and May Lillie Hambleton Smootz; his siblings, Albert Birdie Smootz, Earl A. Smootz, Marie Mildred Barrick, Ruby Frye, Ray L. Smootz and Bobby Eugene Smootz; and his daughter Deborah A. Crossley.
He is survived by: his children, Sharon Cline, Thomas Crossley (Suzanne), Ramona Moore (Russell), Betty Maher (Michael) and Charles Smootz (Deborah). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
