He was predeceased by: his parents, Stephen G. Barnard and Sarah Edith Barnard; and his wife Helen E. Barnard. He is survived by: his children, Carolyn Payne (David), Sandra Hall (Rick), Stephen Barnard (Aimee), Charles Barnard (Sharon), Karen Hardy, Mary Beauchamp (Wane), Ernest Chandler and Ray Meeks; and his siblings, Bill Barnard and Florence "Flossie" Adams. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
