He was predeceased by: his parents, James Delbert Smythers and Ruby Farmer Dean Smythers; his sisters, Jean Kiser and Kay Patino; and his grandchild Eddie.
He is survived by: his wife Myra Sullivan Smythers; his children, Sandra G. Alfree (Edwin) of Girdletree, MD, Michele Smythers (Jackie Whitehead) of Pocomoke City, MD, Nikki Brown (James) of Ocean City, MD and Michael Wayne Smythers (Brenda) of Stockton, MD; his grandchildren, Bradly, Jerrad, E. J., Theresa, Destiny, Joshua, Lydia, Jessica, Becky, Jackie C., Sierra, Kya, Jackie W., Jason, Re Re, Shelly, Charlie, Nicholas, Ryan, Nicole, Meghan and Lizzy; and his sister Delores Cassell (Curley) of Crewe, VA. He is also survived by thirty six great grandchildren.
