He is survived by: his wife Gail Shaivitz Oppel; his daughters, Karen Beth Oppel and Emily Gershbein (Moses); his stepchildren, Amanda Shaivitz Berkowitz (Jonathan) and Daniel Scott Shaivitz (Heather); his sister Irene "Buzzie" Himelfarb; his granddaughter Tilly Elaine Gershbein; his stepgrandchildren, Ryken Berkowitz, Noah Berkowitz, Colin Matthew Shaivitz and Zachary Ryan Shaivitz; his nephews, Saul, Joel and Richard; and his friends, Roland and Alegra Best.
