He was predeceased by: his parents, Stephen Cortez and Ethel Poteat Barnett; and his siblings, Dave, James, Charles, Allie and Lucille.

He is survived by: his siblings, Lovie Dalton (Robert), Annie B. Jackson of Baltimore, MD and Cortez Barnett (Rosa) of Baltimore, MD. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
