He was predeceased by: his parents, Antonio Puertas and Eva Gomez Puertas; and his brothers, Isidoro Puertas, Antonio Puertas and Gonzalo Puertas.
He is survived by: his wife Haydee; his children, Patricia Rucker, Jose Alejandro Puertas, Daniel Eduardo Puertas and Luis Enrique Puertas; and his siblings, Eva Puertas, Maria Puertas, Pascual Puertas and Julio Toledo. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
