She was predeceased by: her parents, George H. Sible and Isabella Sible (Harrell); her husband Earl A. Markel, Jr.; and her siblings, Edward Sible (Jo), Harry Sible (Thelma), Dorothy Risher (Charles), Lucinda Risher (Lou) and Laura Wynkoop (Francis).
She is survived by: her children, Shirley Copenhaver (Donald), Earl George (Brenda), Margaret "Marge" Green (Jay) and Deborah Markel. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family has requested that, in lieu of sending flowers, those wishing to honor Bertha's memory may do so by making contributions to the District 16 Volunteer Fire Department, 12100 North Branch Rd., Cumberland MD, 21502.
