He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis Sauer and Bernadette McGonigal Sauer; his wife Joan Couzens Sauer; and his brother Louis Sauer. He is survived by: his children, Regina M. Cusson (John), John J. Sauer, Jr. (Debbie), Mary Rose Hueg (Donnie), Joan M. Campbell and Jeffrey M. Sauer (Sharon); and his grandchildren, Jonathan, Benjamin, Christopher, Kate, Eric, Billy, Christina, Nathan and Ryan. He is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren.
