He was predeceased by: his parents, Heyward Custer and Effie Custer (Friend). He is survived by: his wife Janet Custer (Marley); his children, Paul Custer (Sharon) of Accident, Charles Custer (Darla) of Friendsville, Leonard Custer (Dixie Ashby) of Swanton and Marsha Marple of Oakland; and his grandchildren, Joshua Custer (Jolene), Chelsie Manges (Bryce), Charlie "Chas" Custer, Lee Custer (Allie), Todd Custer (Bethany), Brandon Manko (Heather), Tara McManus (Trent) and Dale Marple (Kaya). He is also survived by nineteen great grandchildren; along with a numerous nieces and nephews.
