It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Kathryn Louise Thomas of Oakland, Maryland, who passed away on April 4, 2025, at the age of 80, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Hallie B. "Mike" Hershberger and Marjorie L. Hershberger (Hott); her husband George Q. "Sonny" Thomas; her son William R. "Billy" Bircher, Jr.; her stepson Kelly Thomas; and her brother Michael Hershberger.
She is survived by: her daughters, Kathy Smith (Ron), Patricia "Tiny" Layton (Michael) and Debbie A. Weiss; her stepchildren, Cari Thomas of Williston, ND and Kevin Thomas; her grandchildren, Ian Smith (Nicole), Misty Sharpless (Mitch), Ronald Tasker, Jr., Christopher Tasker, Hoa "Scott" Do and Bri-ann Fales; her stepgrandchildren, Kelsey Thomas, Kurstin Thomas, Chris Thomas, Shawna and Cassie Lopez; her sister Deanna Porter; her sisters-in-law, Anna Dunson and Kathy Powell; her niece Cheryl Tasker; her nephew Rick Landis; and her close friends, Tony, Sharon and Marie of North Dakota. She is also survived by 11 great grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 9th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Newman Funeral Homes (1100 Memorial Dr, Oakland, MD 21550). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 9th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
