He was predeceased by: his parents, Heyward S. Custer and Effie Custer (Friend); and his siblings, Evelyn Steyer, Phyllis Knepp, Hubert Custer and Melvin Custer.
He is survived by: his son Franklin Heyward Custer (Amy) of Oakland; his grandchildren, Michelle Dawn McCartney, Joseph Heyward Custer and Lauren Grace Custer; his great grandchild Ellen Davis; and his siblings, Mary Bishop (Franklin) of Bel Air, MD, Shirley Bernard (Thomas) of Oakland, Leo Custer (Janet) of Friendsville, Roger Custer of Keyser, WV and Clarence Custer (JoAnn) of Oakland. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
