He was predeceased by: his parents, Frances Irene Thompson (Savoy) and James Roy Thompson; his siblings, Betty Thomas, Ruth Barber, Margaret Marshall, Agnes Greenfield, Winfield Thompson, William Thompson (Billy), Howard Thompson (Howdy) and George Thompson (Stevie); his siblings-in-law, Delores of Washington, Alvin of Washington, Bernard of Washington, Thomas (Wayne) of Washington, Bobby Byrd, James Greenfield, Laurel Marshall, Harold Thomas and James Barber Sr.; and his niece Nancy of Washington.

He is survived by: his wife Cecelia (Tillie); his children, Latisha Yates (Arthur) and Roy Diniesha (Montez); his grandchildren, Tyrone "Tykeem" Yates, Zenia Douglas, Montez "Tazzie", Ze'niyah Thompson, Sister Eunice Williams (Samuel), Juanita Swann, Tessa Young (Thomas) and Wanda Jenkins (Thomas); his sisters-in-law, Shelva Byrd, Patricia Smith, Jean of Washington, Liza Thompson and Karen of Washington; his godchildren, John "Tyrell" of Washington, J'nee Johnson and Miya of Washington; and also Kalani Garland. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and friends.
