He was predeceased by: his parents, David Tear and Grace Tear Lewis. He is survived by: his wife Sally Ann Tear; his children, Charlotte Solano (Simon) of Midland, David Tear, III (Julie) of Hagerstown, Angela Packan (Charles) of New Market, Victoria Hale (Christopher) of New Market and Elizabeth Frey of New Market, Maryland; his grandchildren, Chaz, Hannah, Alexa, Stephanie, Justin, Hunter, Jacob, Carsyn and Owen; his great grandchildren, Jonah and Gianna; his sister Carol Burns of Columbia; and his sister-in-law Thelma Truitt of Frederick. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to Frederick Health Hospice or Children's Hospital Center of Washington DC.
