He is survived by: his children, LaTonya Coates, IShine Thompson (Eli), Africa (Keith) of Washington, Mia Coates and Naduasca Verette (Calvin); his grandchildren, Myles Tucker, Zoe Tucker, Camille Edewor, Essence Thompson, Nylah Thompson, Kevin Kelly Jr., Kaila Tibbs, Makayla of Washington, Kennedy Tibbs, Kiersten of Washington, Skie Blue Verette, King Verette, Messiah Verette, Queen Verette, Reign Verette and Legend Verette; his sisters, Vivian Coates and Carolyn Coates-Riddick; his brothers-in-law, James Harris and Johnie Riddick; and his aunts, Bonita Ross and Delphie Ross. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
