He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles D. Hayes and Bessie Fay Pickle Hayes of Indian Head, Maryland.; his brothers, JB, Paul E., Thomas E., Gilbert and C. Dean; and his stepson George W. Bassford III (Sonny).
He is survived by: his wife Susan of Nanjemoy; and his siblings, Oakie, Ruby, Susie (Claude), Brenda, Harold and Carl (Jenny). He is also survived by relatives and many nieces and nephews.
