He was predeceased by: his parents, Ida Burkhart Finzel (Shoemake) and Carl E. Burkhart; his brother Leon Burkhart; and his wife Dorothy A. Burkhart (Knight). He is survived by: his significant other Mary Edith Dominick; his sons, Richard C. Burkhart II (Angela) and Robert L. Burkhart; his stepchildren, Sheri Severn, Patti Imes, Karen Peden and W. Karl Prodoehl; his grandchildren, Karl and Abby Burkhart; and his aunt Shelby Nixon.
