He was loved and cherished by many people including: his spouse Ayako Ito Brown; his child Teri J. Brown; his child-in-law Lawrence J. Prograis, Jr.; and his siblings, Belva Jean Griffin and Laura Mae Smith (Vancouver, Washington). He was also cherished by niece (Rita Griffin Dietz), nephews (Kinney Smith, Ralph Griffin, Robert Griffin, Alim Abdul Jabbar, and Gregory Smith), step-grandchildren (Lawrence J. Prograis III, Shannon S. Prograis, Anthony Paul Prograis) and a host of grandnieces and grandnephews.
