She was predeceased by: her parents, Emma Black and Harrison Black; her husband Robert James Downes (Bobby); her granddaughter Shardae Downes; and her siblings, Rudolph, Harrison Black (Sonny) and Shirley Sewell.

She is survived by: her children, Lori Downes of Centreville, MD, James (Donny) and Lamont Downes of Pondtown, MD; her stepchildren, Jaki Flood and Rassan Downes; her sisters, Joyce Hopkins and Elinore Waits; her siblings-in-law, Elmyra Black, Betty Downes, Blanche Taylor, Sylvester Sewell, Roger Hopkins and Willie Waits; her godchildren, Lorie Johnson and John Winchester; and her close friends, Gary Emory, Erica Sadler, Pam Johnson, Rosalind Hoxter and Patrice Warner. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren.
