He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard E. Gilpin and Georgianna Gilpin (Phillips); and his brother Richard Gilpin. He is survived by: his wife Sandra Gilpin (Cadwallader); his children, Joseph Gilpin Jr. (Diane) of Baltimore, Timothy Gilpin of Pennsylvania, Jennifer Gilpin and Donald Maeby of Baltimore; his grandchildren, Joseph Gilpin, Ashlee Langley (Ethan), Reva Gilpin and Jonathan Maeby; his siblings, Rita "Sue" Bajkowski (Junior) and James Gilpin (Faye); his sister-in-law Ann Gilpin; and his nieces and nephews, Shannon, Stephenie, Sarah, Lance, Matt, Jason, Steven, Nathaniel and Jeremiah. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
