He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Lois Norman, Van Cresap Norman, Phyllis Mekkelson and Wayne Mekkelson; and his parents-in-law, Skip Shafer and Bobbette Shafer.
He is survived by: his spouse Stephanie Shafer; his children, Alex, Trevor and Jessica; his parents, Peter Mekkelson and Suzanne Mekkelson; his brother Paul Mekkelson (Karen); his siblings-in-law, Denise Sigler and Brad Wilson; his nieces and nephews, Cori, Ian, Branin, Bryant (Marko) and Oliver; his mother-in-law Robyn Shafer; and his significant other Wellesley. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wounded Warrior Project and Christ Reformed United Church in Middletown.
