He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Elizabeth Gordon Stokes and Franklin Leroy Stokes; and his brother Gordon W. Stokes. He is survived by: his daughters, Brenda Denton (John) of Mechanicsville, MD and Sherry McManus of Mechanicsville, MD; his grandchildren, Joseph L. Welch, Jr, Albert L. Lyon, III (Speedy), John R. Denton, Jr, Natalie B. McManus, Jamie M. Cochran and Joshua M. Denton; and his siblings, Shelby J. Choate and Gary L. Stokes. He is also survived by 4 great grandchildren.
