He was predeceased by: his father William Sr. Smith; his wife Beverly J. Smith; and his granddaughter Erica Jennifer Smith. He is survived by: his children, Roland A. Smith, Jr. (Sharon), Gene R. Smith (Darlene) and Terri Lynn Siwinski (Brian). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
