He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd Smith and Merle Sheen Smith; his sister Eleanor Lewis; and his siblings-in-law, Sam Lewis, Bernard "Barney" Dyer, John Stone Jr., William Stone, James Kalivoda and Isabel Smith.

He is survived by: his wife Louise Stone Smith; his children, Eric John Smith (Patricia Mustico Clair) of Albany, NY and Jennifer Elizabeth; his grandchildren, Lieutenant Olivia Tillett, Josiah Tillett, Emily Tillett and Michael Clair; his siblings, Alice Dyer of Florence, AZ, Richard Smith and Carl Smith (Geraldine); and his parents-in-law, Richard Stone (Susan), Janet Kalivoda, Mary Ann Saranchuk (Barry) and Yvonne Cudo Stone Smith. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.
