He is survived by: his parent Emma Ruth Smith Shaffer; his spouse Betty Jane Blacksten Shaffer; his children, Mary Witte (James) and Alden W. Shaffer Jr.; his wife Gwen Smith of Taneytown; and also Clifton T. Smith (Ellen) of Pamona, MO.
