She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Eugene Washington Johnson and Ruthie May Hoover; her sons, Willis E. Hess (Barbara) of Johnson City and Steven E. Hess (Gisele) of Leonardtown; her grandchildren, Derek Richert-Hess, David Richert-Hess, Zana Hess and Noah Hess; her husband Maynard Hess; and her grandson Ian S. Hess. She was also cherished by 3 great grandchildren in NC, 3 sisters-in-law, 5 brothers-in-law, 50 nieces and nephews.
