We are sad to announce that on November 13, 2020, at the age of 80, Essie Mae Benjamin of Laytonsville, Maryland passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her daughter Avis Palma Benjamin; her significant other Bennie E. Benjamin; and her parents, James Chance and Daisy Chance. She is survived by: her children, Veda Benjamin, Bennie Benjamin Jr. (Rhonda), Darcel Benjamin Williams, Shawna Benjamin (Tony Bennett) and Amy Benjamin Smith (Philip); her grandchildren, Lamar, Andrea, LaNikia, Jamal, Corey, Marcus, Raven, Nya and Tevon; her great grandchildren, Ramal, Jayden, Marcus, Giana, Xavier, Novah, Elijah, Aleah, Karis and Aliah; her brother James Chance (Barbara); her mother-in-law Carrie Benjamin; her siblings-in-law, James Benjamin (Brenda), Johnathan Benjamin (Georgia), Pauline White, Mary Gray (Oliver), Thelma Wilson and Carolyn Benjamin; her children, Timothy and Michelle Beckwith; her godson Cordell Hall; and her close friends, Alberta Winn, Mary Gray, Esther Juarez, Mary Hopkins, Hilda Whittaker, Pat Moore, Reverend and Pearl J. Selby. She is also survived by cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Due to COVID-19, the family will have a private ceremony.
