It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John William Downing Sr. (La Plata, Maryland), born in Washington, District of Columbia, who passed away on November 4, 2024, at the age of 90, leaving to mourn family and friends. While his presence may be gone, his impact lives on in the kindness shown to others and the joy found in the ordinary moments of life.
He was predeceased by: his parents, George Downing and Edna Downing (Baxter); his wife Linda; his children, James and Brenda; and his great grandchild Jacob Norwood.
He is survived by: his son John Jr. (Cathy); and his granddaughter Donna. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, and numerous great and great- great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, November 12th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Raymond Funeral Chapel (5635 Washington Ave, La Plata, MD 20646). A memorial service was held on Tuesday, November 12th 2024 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the Children's Cancer Society in Busters name.
