He was predeceased by: his parents, James Lester Sr. and Ruth Elizabeth Baker Heffelfinger; and his nephews, Marcus A. Yockey and Ryan E. Ersick. He is survived by: his wife Linda Hughes; his children, Matthew J. Heffelfinger of Kitzmiller, MD, Krista Heffelfinger of Latrobe and Alicia Highberger of Latrobe; and his sister Brenda L. Heffelfinger of Derry. He is also survived by several grandchildren and cousins.
